OKLAHOMA CITY – A 90-year-old man’s car was stolen right before his eyes.
The alleged suspects are a couple of teens whom the 90-year-old says he thought were coming to help him.
Floyd Been has been a pastor in the Oklahoma City community for more than 60 years.
His family says he’d give anyone the shirt off of his back, so to find out someone stole from him is simply heartbreaking.
On Sunday, Floyd was picking up pecans from underneath a tree outside of the church building, located at S.W. 39th and Portland, when two teen boys ran toward him.
“They came across the street from over there. They act like they was picking up pecans,” Floyd said.
But the teens had more than pecans on their mind.
Floyd said he had left his car running nearby.
“They jumped in the car and took off,” he said.
The pair sped out of the parking lot and disappeared.
“People need to start raising their kids better. How can you do that to a 90-year-old man?” asked Brad Manning, Floyd’s great-grandson.
Floyd’s family searched for the car but never found it.
On Tuesday night, the family received a call from police.
“They found it crashed,” said Manning.
Less than six miles away, the car was found abandoned, crashed into a building at N.W. 79th St. and Olie.
“The kids had left a cell phone and a backpack in the car,” Manning said.
The airbags had deployed, the back bumper was gone and the front was smashed on each side.
Floyd has been the pastor at the Portland Avenue Pentecostal Church for nearly 64 years.
He says that car was vital for him to get around.
“Going to doctors and hospitals, visiting nursing homes, and so forth, the sick,” he said.
“He’s very caring. He’ll do anything for anybody,” Manning said.
His family is now helping out.
As for those suspects, Floyd says there are no hard feelings.
“No hatred or anything against them,” he said.
Floyd only had liability insurance on the vehicle.
Floyd’s family is hoping they can find him another car in the next few days.
