NORMAN, Okla. – For two decades, the murder of an OU student and his friend has gone unsolved.
The double killing took place 20 years ago this week in October 1994.
Now, Norman police are once again asking for the public’s help to solve the cold case.
No one has been arrested for the murders.
The victim’s family says they simply want to know who pulled the trigger and why.
“Eric had a promising life,” said the victim’s brother CJ Davis. “He was a very charismatic kid.”
Eric Davis’s life got cut short in October 1994.
That’s when a man came to Davis’s Norman apartment and made a grisly discovery.
Police say Davis and his friend, Jackie Smith, were found inside the apartment shot execution style in the head.
“It was devastating for us,” said CJ. “It’s been 20 years and it hurts like it was yesterday.”
CJ says the pain of losing his youngest brother has never completely healed.
“It still hurts to this day,” said CJ.
“Eric was very special to us,” said the victim’s mother Ada Davis. “As a mother I carry him in my heart.”
Davis’ mother now lives in Florida but said she can’t forget the first time she visited the crime scene 20 years ago.
“When I went in Eric’s apartment, I could smell his blood. That smell still goes with me today,” said Ada.
Davis’ family says they simply want whoever committed the killings caught – giving two families long overdue peace of mind.
“We want the case solved because we don’t want whoever did it to be out there killing somebody else,” said Ada.
“If we could find out what happened, it would definitely ease the pain that’s been associated with this for 20 years,” said CJ.
Police initially speculated the killings may have been drug related, but an exact motive remains unclear.
