OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – Mayor David Holt is extending the state of emergency to April 30, but he says it could be longer.
Holt is urging people to use common sense and prioritize life during the pandemic.
“Please, please, please, consider your life and the lives of those you love in every decision you make,” he said.
Health officials say the peak of the pandemic in Oklahoma is expected to be sometime in April.
Holt says people should assume everyone has the virus – that’s how cautious they should be.
“Stop trying to find loopholes – what that tells me is you do not value the lives of the people at your company, your business or organization, or just the lives of those around you,” he said.
Holt says he doesn’t think a curfew is necessary right now.
He is reminding people to not visit other households, to socially distance at stores and parks and to only send one family member to get groceries. There is no need to hoard food.
“This virus takes people in the prime of their lives, just when they were planning a joyful retirement, and looking forward to time with their grandkids and trips around the world. Please, when you’re trying to find some new angle that in your mind is worth it, ask yourself, ‘What event, party, get-together, activity, is worth someone’s life? Is it worth yours?'” he said.
Holt is also asking people to donate personal protective equipment to health workers.
