Raised in Houston, Emily Akins joined KFOR in April 2019 after spending two years in Denison, TX at the NBC/ABC/CW affiliate KTEN. There, she served as a weekend anchor and reporter before eventually moving onto the desk full time as the week night ABC anchor.
During her time in North Texas/Southern Oklahoma, she covered the opioid crisis, clergy sex scandals, politics, and a number of breaking news stories. A few stories that caught national attention include the legalization of medical marijuana in Oklahoma, and a gas rig explosion in Quinton.
She graduated from The University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism and minor in Communications. Outside of school, she was an active member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority and was a member of the OU Pom Squad. She interned in Oklahoma City.
While she isn’t working, Emily likes to cheer on Oklahoma Football, eat Tex-Mex, and explore her new home of Oklahoma City!
She is very excited to join the team at KFOR! Send her story ideas at emily.akins@kfor.com.
