Actor Jim Nabors, known for his role as Gomer Pyle, dies at 87

A well-known actor from the “Andy Griffith Show” has died at the age of 87.

Jim Nabors was most well-known for his role as Gomer Pyle, the dimwitted mechanic at Wally’s Filling Station in Mayberry.

His role, which was just supposed to be a one-time appearance, was so successful that he appeared in 23 episodes. He even earned a spin-off as Private Pyle in Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.

Nabors was also known for his singing ability and even performed “Back Home in Indiana” during the opening ceremonies for the Indianapolis 500.

In 2013, Nabors married 64-year-old Stan Cadwallader, his partner of 38 years.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Nabors died early Thursday morning at the age of 87.
