ANTLERS, Okla. – An Oklahoma community is mourning after two public servants were killed in a head-on crash this past weekend.
Authorities say 33-year-old Shawn Jones was driving eastbound on Hwy 3E when he crossed the center median and hit a Jeep head-on.
Tragically, 29-year-old Becky Trotter and 34-year-old Brooke Trotter were killed in the wreck. Their mother is still recovering from her injuries.
According to KXII, the women were known to be selfless and loved helping others.
Becky Trotter worked as a nurse at Pushmataha County Hospital, while Brooke Trotter worked as a paramedic for Antlers EMS.
“She’s selfless,” Marion Spalding said of Becky Trotter. “She worked lots and lots of hours, never complained. She did her job and never called into work.”
Atoka EMS Director Donna Eagleberger, where Brooke Trotter recently worked, said everyone is heartbroken over the loss.
“Brooke was loved by all and dedicated her life to helping others. We’re all just devastated,” she said.
Jones was arrested at the scene after troopers say he smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet.
KXII reports that he is facing a charge of first-degree manslaughter in the case.
