Sooners Avoid Bedlam Sweep

Oklahoma got a two-run home run in the bottom of the 7th inning from Anthony Hermelyn to break a 3-3 tie and went on to beat Oklahoma State 5-3 in the finale of their three-game Bedlam series at the Bricktown Ballpark on Sunday evening.

Hermelyn drove in four of OU’s five runs, the first two RBI’s coming on groundouts.

Oklahoma once again scored first, as a Hermelyn groundout scored a run to give OU a 1-0 lead.

The Sooners added to the lead in the second inning on a groundout by Craig Aikin to make it 2-0.

Oklahoma State tied it in the fifth inning when Donnie Walton connected on a two-run home run to right field to make it 2-2.

The Sooners responded in the bottom of the inning on Hermelyn’s second groundout RBI to go on top 3-2.

OSU answered in the top of the 6th as Ryan Sluder led off with a home run to tie the game at 3.

OSU used five pitchers in the game, with Tyler Nurdin taking the loss after giving up the home run to Hermelyn.

Oklahoma stopped a five-game losing streak with the win, while OSU had their four-game winning streak snapped.

The Sooners improved to 30-21 on the season, 11-7 in the Big 12.

The Cowboys dropped to 31-15 overall, 14-7 in conference play.

OU visits Kansas State for a three-game series next weekend in Manhattan, while OSU hosts West Virginia in a three-game series in Stillwater, with both series starting Friday.
