UPDATE: Dr. Fuller has turned himself into authorities and is to face arraignment Thursday afternoon.
OKLAHOMA CITY – There are serious sexual allegations against an Oklahoma City doctor.
Wednesday, Dr. John Fuller was charged with rape by instrumentation and sexual battery after two female patients told police he inappropriately touched them during doctor’s visits.
Court documents state Fuller has allegations that date back to 2001.
NewsChannel 4 has learned that since then three civil lawsuits have been filed against him.
“He really abused his position as a physician,” attorney George Brown said. “When it becomes not about taking care of the patient but about sexual gratification, then it’s improper.”
Brown represents one of the women who accused Fuller of sexual misconduct during one of her appointments with him at the Oklahoma Pain Center in July of 2013.
She claims Fuller “placed his left hand down her shorts and rested his hand on her right groin area” and that he put his right hand “on the skin of her vagina” while he talked to her.
She says he also made inappropriate comments about her body.
The woman filed a civil lawsuit against Fuller, but since then criminal charges have been filed.
“For her it’s embarrassing,” Brown said. “It’s private. It’s confidential. It’s not something you would run telling people about. So it’s very difficult for her to bring this type of lawsuit.”
NewsChannel 4 contacted the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision.
They say they can’t comment on pending investigations.
Fuller has no disciplinary actions against him and is still licensed.
However, court records show the medical board provided “six previous complaints” against Fuller “by former patients or coworkers.”
Back in 2011, another woman says she went to Fuller for depression and hip pain, but claims Fuller “conducted a breast exam for an unknown reason.”
When the medical assistant left the room, Fuller told the woman “she was required to get a vaginal exam” and then “conducted the vaginal exam without wearing gloves.”
She filed a civil lawsuit for damages, but Fuller’s attorney, Scott Adams, says those claims are not true.
“The two individuals he’s charged with have civil suits against him, and I feel confident at the end of the day he’ll be exonerated.”
In 2003, another woman filed a lawsuit against Fuller, claiming he “physically assaulted and battered her” and “forced her to kiss him.”
Despite that lawsuit and the two others, Adams says his client is innocent.
Adams said, “We’re sad that it’s come to this point, but he understands that’s the process of being a physician, and he’s willing to go ahead and defend himself.”
According to Adams, Fuller will turn himself into authorities Thursday.
