MOORE, Okla. – A Moore teacher is facing a serious charge after allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

On Tuesday, Cleveland County District Attorney Greg Mashburn filed one count of forcible sodomy against Sandra Mayfield.

The charges allege that Mayfield performed oral sex on a 17-year-old student on Feb. 27 in the parking lot of Buck Thomas Park.

Investigators claim Mayfield and the student also drove around the metro and were seen kissing and hugging on multiple security cameras in Oklahoma City.

The charges say Mayfield is a teacher at Moore High School and the teen is a student at the school.

Administrators learned of the incident Friday, March 4, according to a statement issued by Moore Public Schools.

District officials say they contacted the Moore Police Department and provided them information about the incident.

Investigators said surveillance video of Mayfield and the student hugging and kissing in Oklahoma City was key in bringing charges against her.

That’s when the allegations surfaced that she performed oral sex on one of her students.

Moore police said the crime occurred in late February.

“They met at a business here in Moore, drove around in Oklahoma City, made a few stops, ended up late that night at a park here in Moore, Buck Thomas Park, where she performed oral sex on the 17-year-old,” said Moore police Sgt. Jeremy Lewis.

Police said it happened in the back of Mayfield’s car in the parking lot.

Before that, the two drove to Nichols Hills and downtown Oklahoma City, where multiple surveillance cameras recorded them hugging and kissing, according to court documents.

The incident was reported to a school resource officer, and police interviewed the 17-year-old.

They say his story and the security video matched up.

“There was surveillance in Oklahoma City that showed them together kissing. That was proof that they were everywhere, pretty much everything he gave us checked out,” Lewis said.

During the investigation, Mayfield was placed on administrative leave on March 4.

She has since been banned from campus and having any contact with the student.

Police said, as far as they know, the alleged crime at Buck Thomas Park was the only incident between the two.

NewsChannel 4 stopped by Tuesday at Mayfield’s home, but she wasn’t there.

Moore Public Schools issued a statement today about the incident:

“Moore Public Schools places the safety and welfare of its students ahead of any other interests, and will continue to take necessary steps to safeguard their emotional, physical, and educational well-being.

Information was received of possible improper behavior on Friday, March 4, 2016.  The teacher was suspended immediately and placed on administrative leave.  Law enforcement was also immediately contacted by the District.

The charges filed this afternoon against our employee are shocking and upsetting and are not representative of the hundreds of other teachers who work hard every day to provide a safe and quality education for the students in the Moore Public School District.

As always, we will continue to cooperate with the police department and District Attorney’s office.  We are thankful for their diligent work in this matter and have full confidence in the legal process.

At this time, being consistent with any incident such as this, the employee remains on administrative leave while the case works its way through the court process.”

Mayfield pled not guilty on Tuesday afternoon in Cleveland County District Court.

She’s free on a $1,000 bond.

Her next court date is April 19.
