ADA, Okla. — Ada Police are looking into the unusual death of a 56-year-old woman.
Officers say Carol Colbert was found dead a week ago in her home, located in the 300 block of W. 7th St.
They say she had duct tape over her nose and mouth.
Word of Carol’s death spread fast across the community.
“I just freaked out. I couldn’t believe someone would kill her,” Linda Newberry said.
Linda is a life-long friend of Carol’s. She does not believe the mother of two would have taken her own life.
“Carol would never kill herself. Everybody knows that. Anybody that knows Carol she would not do that to herself,” Linda said.
Investigators recently learned Carol died from asphyxiation, and they are still trying to determine if foul play was involved.
“In the beginning, the MEs kind of ruled a little bit early and said from what they found it was a homicide. But then taking another look, they thought,’Oh, we kind of did this premature.’ Then they re-released a statement saying that it was pending because they still have a lot of tests they have to run that haven’t come back yet,” Lisa Bratcher, with Ada Police, said.
As detectives dig for answers, Carol’s close family and friends are trying to wrap their heads around what happened to a woman that cannot be replaced in their lives.
“I just miss her smile,” Linda said.
