OKLAHOMA CITY – Governor Mary Fallin declared a State of Emergency for 12 Oklahoma counties after multiple tornadoes tore through the state Wednesday evening.

The counties included in the governor’s declaration are:

  • Alfalfa
  • Blaine
  • Caddo
  • Canadian
  • Cleveland
  • Dewey
  • Garfield
  • Grady
  • Grant
  • Major
  • McClain
  • Oklahoma

The governor says this State of Emergency declaration will allow counties to make emergency purchases without limitations.

Oklahoma Emergency Management Director Albert Ashwood says they have some money set back from the tornadoes in 2013.

“We have some disaster relief funds now,” OEM Director Ashwood said. “That will get us started, but as you get declared, additional funds are needed.”

Gov. Fallin met with local Bridge Creek officials to survey some of the damage.

She said she is grateful to the local fire crews who went through the community to alert the residents.

“Thank you for saving lives last night, and for helping our people,” she said Thursday.

She also praised Bridge Creek schools for making sure students got home safely.
