A rare look inside Oklahoma death row from the perspective of the man who is next in line to die. Richard Glossip was convicted in a murder-for-hire plot in 1997. He was scheduled to die Thursday night January 29, 2015. At issue is the drug-cocktail used by the state during lethal injections.

There are 44 inmates living on Oklahoma’s death row.

Glossip was convicted in a murder-for-hire scheme that resulted in the 1997 death of Barry Alan Van Treese, owner of a Best Budget Inn in Oklahoma City.

“This is a living nightmare. Especially for somebody who’s innocent,” said Glossip. “I wake up and look at them walls and I think, how in the hell am I here?”

For the first time, the widow of Glossip’s victim, Donna Van Treese, is speaking out. She will not witness the execution.

“I was stolen the opportunity to hold Barry’s hand when he died, when we were old and gray together. I’m not giving him the satisfaction of me being there to watch him die,” said Donna Van Treese.
