Midwest City Elementary released a statement that the school simply had a sewer drain that was not venting properly, and that all air quality testing results proved clear.
School was be back in session on Monday, Feb. 2.
The school continues to respect any parent’s decision to seek medical attention for a child who is not feeling well.
MIDWEST CITY, Okla. — An unusual odor was reported at Midwest City Elementary on Tuesday. The Midwest City Fire Department and the District Maintenance Team were called, and tests were made in all spaces in the building; no carbon monoxide readings were found. As a precautionary measure, the school was evacuated until the fire department gave an all clear to go back into the building.
Since that time, three staff members have sought medical attention. The school said this in a statement:
“We have continued to assess the air quality conditions in our school. Some air quality conditions continue to exist that warrant further testing. The safety of our students and staff is our most important priority. For this reason, we have canceled school for Midwest City Elementary students on Friday, January 30, while our building will undergo environmental testing.”
Additional testing began this afternoon and will continue through the weekend. More information will be available after testing has been completed.
