MOORE, Okla. — A different colored balloon soared to the heavens for each of the children who died at Plaza Towers Elementary in Moore.
Stories told through tears and raw voices rang through the crowd in Moore Tuesday night. The families of the children killed at Plaza Towers came together on the stage to remember their babies.
9-year-old Nicholas McCabe was one of the young victims. Mom, Stacey, will never forget that last morning.
“He wanted to bring his yearbook that day for everyone to sign,” Stacey says.
Stacey and all the Parents now pleading with all to support the organization ShelterOklahomaSchools.org to build shelters in schools so what happened here will not happen again.
“We have to do this so the unbearable pain that is felt will not have to be felt by anyone else,” Stacey says.
The devastating tornado that hit Newcastle, Shawnee and Moore on May 20, 2013 caused several tragedies. At least 24 people –including nine children — have been taken. Since it has been announced, seven of those children were from Plaza Towers Elementary.
We want to help rebuild what was taken so quickly from us. Shelter Oklahoma Schools was created with the purpose of providing storm shelters in and around Oklahoma schools and communities. We’ve started this fund not only help people now, but for generations to come.
The fund will work with local schools and municipalities to build or fortify storm shelters across the state. The children at Plaza Towers elementary did not have to perish. Nothing we can do will bring them back or console their loved ones who remain, but we can try to stop this from ever happening again. Help us build a stronger future for our children for years to come.
